The North Idaho Sportfishing Association primary goals are to organize the multi-species fishing community and to establish a unified voice for management to hear.
Our current focus is on Lake Pend Oreille, which has quite a legacy and potential as a trophy fishery for non-native fish. While there are several compelling arguments in favor of a multi-species fishery, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has consistently managed in favor of non-native rainbow trout and kokanee-to the detriment of other native and non-native species.
To be clear, NISA is not against managing in favor of non-natives, we simply ask that all non-natives get a fair chance. Additionally, we are not against the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. In fact, NISA recognizes that IDGF does mountains of good work for sportsmen and women of Idaho, we just think they are a little off course with management trajectory on Lake Pend Oreille. Specifically, we are asking that IDFG stop “suppressing” our cool water fishery.
If you share our concerns, you should be heard. Please contact your representatives in government, AVISTA, IDFG, and/or join us.
We need you to speak up for our fishery!
